Assembly Project for 2022
South Carolina Assembly
The Order of the Daughters of the King
ASSEMBLY PROJECT GUIDELINES 2022-2023
Hopeful Horizons (southern region) - Beaufort
Magdalene House of Charleston (central region) - Summerville
Tenacious Grace of Florence (northern region) - Florence
Each individual Chapter will be responsible for one month each of the two years. Daughters at Large are encouraged to partner with a chapter near their home. And, by all means, feel free to make this a Parish activity sponsored by your Chapter. The Chapter President (or her designated sister) will be the contact person for the facility in her area. Angela Morris (angiem.magdalene@gmail.com) is with Magdalene House; Cookie Cowthon (howdy@tenaciousgrace.cc) is with Tenacious Grace; Joya’ Gilchrist (gilchristj@hopefulhorizons.org) is the Volunteer Coordinator with Hopeful Horizons.
There are four areas we have identified to concentrate on:
1. Gently used clothing and accessories (purses, etc) suitable for interviews and work. (please see the caveat for Hopeful Horizons)
2. Personal toiletries (make-up and hair)
3. A Sunday social event (luncheon or tea) for the residents
4. Transportation assistance (Uber or Lyft gift cards)
Magdalene has designated the last Sunday of the month as “Volunteer Day” if you want to help with making jewelry (which they sell in their gift shop) or yard work or any other areas that may need specific attention. Similar arrangements can be made directly with Tenacious Grace. Hopeful Horizons will only accept new clothing and require a SLED screening for any direct contact with the residents for social events.
We look forward to being a blessing for these organizations and their residential women. Thanks in advance for sharing the love.
