Letter from the DOK SC Assembly President

My Dear Sisters-in-Christ,

I pray that your summer has been blessed with vacations, family gatherings, new adventures, and a sense of the many blessings which we sometimes take for granted. (Forget the heat, and heavy thunder storms.....!) I pray that you were able to make a little bit more free time to read, study, pray and grow in your faith and spiritual life. Have you found a good book that you would recommend to your sisters? Does your chapter continue to meet in the summer? If you do not, do you and how do you share prayer requests. After being at Triennial and Kanuga Province IV retreats, I know how important our community of sisters is to my continued sharing God’s love and my faith growth. I am convinced that when we meet with our chapters, attend regionals, retreats and provincials, our conviction to our mission grows by leaps and bounds through the relationships that are blessed and enriched.

While the summer finds many away from home, I am excited to share that three chapters have held a Service of Admission for new Daughters of the King. If your chapter is having a training session for new Daughters, I beg you to please let me know when you plan to have a Service of Admission, as I would love to be there to help you welcome them.

I am attaching the registration form for our Fall Assembly which is scheduled for September 21 at St. Paul's in Summerville. In addition, please put these dates for our regionals on your calendar: January 25, February 8 and February 22. The locations have not been determined so if your chapter would be willing to host one for your region, please let me know. Looking forward to being with you soon.

May God bless you with a cup that is running over, and keep you safe in His care.

FHS,

Mary Rife, President

Masters Fund Ingathering

I hope you all are having a blessed Easter season.  In less than a month on June 9, the Day of Pentecost, we will have the Ingathering of the DOK Master’s Fund.

The Master’s Fund was established at the Order’s National Convention held at Portland, Oregon in September 1922 as a thank offering to be given at Pentecost in loving commemoration of the coming of the Holy Spirit.  Originally Master’s Fund scholarships and grants were given to assist Daughters, or other women, to attend a Church Training School for deaconesses to prepare for missionary or other church-related work.

Individuals and/or Chapters, please consider donating to the Master’s Fund.  By giving to the Fund on Pentecost or any other day of the year, you are helping to fulfill our calling to spread the kingdom of God among women and girls.

Awards are need-based and available to women ages 21 and over.  Applicants for Formal Education Scholarships or Continuing Education Grants should refer to the Master’s Fund page on the DOK National website for the most current information and instructions for submitting applications.

Please consider supporting the mission of the Master’s Fund as you are able.  Contributions of any size are welcome.  Your prayers are also welcome every day.

Feel free to contact me at 2044hitem@earthlink.net

Women's Retreat, Spring 2019

2019 Retreat

Be still and know that He is God

The Daughters of the King (DOK) South Carolina Assembly sponsored a Women’s Retreat at Camp St. Christopher in April.   The Rev. Summer Gross, an Anglican priest, from Loganville, Georgia was the keynote speaker; the theme, "Be still and Know that He is God."  Using practical ideas, Summer led the attendees deeper in the walk with our Lord by finding peace through praying the scriptures, cultivating stillness in a world addicted to busyness, and how clinging to the Presence of God can take us through spaces of suffering and empower our prayer life. The Junior Daughters of the South Carolina Assembly also attended.  They sponsored fun activities such as making small stuffed bears for pediatric patients and painting crosses on canvas.    Another highlight of the weekend was a “Mary takes us through the Stations of the Cross Service.”  We joined Mary for a reflection on the Stations, as she guided us though the stations through her eyes then, and through her eyes now.   The weekend was truly a blessing for all in attendance.   The DOK will be sponsoring another retreat in March of 2020.  All women are invited.  Watch our webpage at  http://www.doksc.org/ for updates.
